The bank gatekeeper referred to on the John Houblon Fifty Pound Note is the man Sir John Houblon. He was the bank of England’s first Governor.
HOUSE IN THREADNEEDLE STREET
The house in Threadneedle street was the home of Sir John Houblon. The house was purchased by the Bank of England in 1724. It was later demolished to make way for the expansion of the Bank on the threadneedle site which is still there to this day.
